This Week In Metairie Live Music

Monday, August 9th, 2010

This week is a great one for live music in Metairie.  Starting with Amanda Walker & Friends tonight we’ve got a hell of a line-up sure to get your feet tapping.  This week at The Rivershack Tavern we have Mark Carson on Friday and The Mustard Brothers on Saturday.  We’d have a show on Thursday but we’re making room for…

THE FIRST SAINTS GAME OF THE SEASON! Be sure to stop by and toast our champions as they soundly trounce the Patriots.  Should the unthinkable happen you’ll be in the right place to drown your sorrows in an ice cold glass of Abita.

But we’re not talking about the greatest football team ever to grace the Mississippi River.  No, we’re talking about the greatest venue to stomp and clap to live music in Metairie – also along the Mississippi River.  Check out the artist descriptions below so you can decide what nights you’ll be here having a good time.

Amanda Walker has been called “bewitching” and “dramatic” by the Times Picayune, compared to Alanis Morissette and Anna Nalick by Where Y’at, and fawned over in Offbeat Magazine.  Find out why – and bring your lady friend. (Tonight, Monday the 9th)

Mark Carson lists among his influences The Beatles, Johnny Cash and Arethra Franklin.  When he’s not dealing with those obvious symptoms of split personality disorder he’s rocking us with his home brewed fusion of country melancholy, rockabilly rhythm and soundtrack ambiance.  Come see why we invite him back.

The Mustard Brothers put on a one hell of a rocking show… and otherwise defy description.  Perhaps their website says enough.

Live Music In Metairie

Good music, good food and good company are New Orleans trademarks.  Thanks to us, they’re also in Metairie.

If you like driving through bumper to bumper traffic to get downtown and navigate the French Quarter labyrinth for the privilege of drinking next to obnoxious tourists on the smelliest street in the world, The River Shack isn’t for you.  If you want to enjoy the same music, better food and drinks that haven’t seen the wrong end of a water gun, come check us out.

This week is going to be a great one for live music lovers in or near Metairie.  Big Al is coming down to soothe our souls, Friday at 9:30.  For those of you who’ve been living in a cave with your hands over your eyes and your thumbs in your ears, Big Al is synonymous with hot jazz.  He’s one of those institutions that puts a downtown bar on the map or gets the Zulu party started.  And, if you haven’t guessed, Big Al is big.

Big Al isn't small.

With respect, you know this man knows food.  He don’t grace just anywhere with his butter-smooth tones, and I’m guessing it’s the Shack’s chow that’s drawing him out of the Funky Pirate on Friday.

The rest of the week isn’t any slouch, either.  Bracketing Al’s performance on Thursday and Saturday are Mark Carson on Thursday and Ghost Town on Saturday.  If you like a good time, you know that some bands get it rolling live and some need a studio.  In our humble opinion, Mark and Ghost town would not have a wasted existence if it were dedicated to swinging hips and snapping fingers live for the rest of their days.
